From the President's report by Robert Mitchell [1]:
To have grown from a small group of people who simply wanted their voices to be heard into a national organisation with international influence is a remarkable achievement.
Today, NAPWA is made up of members from every state and territory of the country and has an acknowledged central role in the development of policy that affects HIV positive people in Australia.
This year saw the revitalisation of the Commonwealth government HIV advisory structures with broad community representation including NAPWA at a single highlevel. A partial review of the previous national strategy was undertaken late in 2008 and many elements that had community support were reflected in the new advisory structures and the way in which they have commenced work on the development of the next national strategy. This appears to be an effort towards the realisation of the true meaning of partnership in the HIV response in Australia.
