Advanced Course in HIV Medicine for Pharmaceutical Company Representatives

Treataware at NAPWA (National Association of People living with HIV) and ASHM [1]Australasian Society for HIV Medicine. The peak Australasian organisation representing the medical and health sector in HIV/AIDS and related areas. (Australasian Society of HIV Medicine) have collaborated to provide an Advanced Course in HIV Medicine for Pharmaceutical Representatives. It is to be held in Sydney, at the Medina on Crown, 359 Crown St, Surry Hills on Friday 26 March 2010.

The course is intended for those people who have previously attended a Treataware/ASHM Short Course in HIV Medicine.

The one-day course will include presentations, discussion and group work sessions.

Topics will include:

• Epidemiology [2]The branch of medical science that deals with the study of incidence and distribution and control of a disease in a population. – Current experience of HIV internationally, in Australia and the region
• Clinical [3]Pertaining to or founded on observation and treatment of participants, as distinguished from theoretical or basic science. Research – A report back on key issues presented at the Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections (CROI 2010)
• ‘The place of new therapies in HIV Clinical Management’ – An update on the benefits and risks associated with new therapies and an update on DHHS guidelines
• Social Research – An update into the lived experience of HIV, focussing on findings from HIV Futures Six Study
• Ageing and HIV – Addressing key physiological and neurological aspects the HIV specialist may encounter with an aging population
• HIV Co-infection – Key aspects of management of patients with hepatitis B or hepatitis C co-infection
• ‘In the Pipeline’ – Developments that can be expected in the future
• A Q & A session on issues in focus
