in collaboration with PLWHA Victoria offer their two-day Short Course in HIV Medicine for Community Workers & Volunteers.

The course objectives are:-

To provide information on basic science associated with HIV
To provide an understanding of the current experience of HIV, internationally, in Australia and in the region
To provide a description of clinical [1]Pertaining to or founded on observation and treatment of participants, as distinguished from theoretical or basic science. tests used in diagnosing and monitoring
To provide descriptions of different drug families currently in use, and new therapies
To provide an overview of clinical trials and special access schemes
To provide information about drug side effects, interactions and adverse reactions
To explain long term toxicities and advanced disease
To provide an understanding of the issues around the importance of adherence to combination antiretroviral [2]A medication or other substance which is active against retroviruses such as HIV. therapy (CART)
To provide an introduction to the latest strategies affecting when to start, change and stop treatment, and monitoring and maintenance issues
To provide an introduction to the concept of post exposure prophylaxis (PEP)
To provide an overview of common mental health issues associated with HIV

To provide panel discussion highlighting the issues facing diverse communities

Waged - $300.00 plus GST ~ Unwaged - FREE
