Understanding why people don't treat

NAPWA's Research Unit wants to find out why some people with HIV decide not to use antiretroviralA medication or other substance which is active against retroviruses such as HIV. treatment.

The Unit wants to identify the main psychological, social and structural factors that affect a person’s decision not to treat; the impact any previous treatment experience might have had on that decision and the circumstances, if any, in which people would see themselves starting treatment.

It plans to conduct a number of interviews with as many non-treaters as possible around the country.

Results will be presented at community forums and workshops and will help in the development of resources to better inform PLHIVPerson (or people) Living with HIV. This term is now preferred over the older PLWHA. of their treatment options.
