NAPWA Annual Report 2006-07

Annual report • 1 November 2007

From the President's report by Robert Mitchell:

I started my term as President at the November 2006 Annual General Meeting where there was a finalisation of the mid-term review of the NAPWA Strategic Plan 2004–2008. The major outcome of that review was that we identified a need for NAPWA’s capacity to be expanded. As positive people are living longer and facing more complex issues in their lives, there is an increasing demand for NAPWA to represent and advocate on their behalf.

This was a prescient evaluation of the challenges that NAPWA would face in the months ahead. These challenges were driven in part by a high level of media interest in several cases around Australia of positive people being charged with knowingly or recklessly infecting others. NAPWA directly supported member organisations to help them make public statements and develop discussion papers advocating for the rights of positive people and to respond to calls for changes in public health and immigration policies.
